Walsworth Tops the 2018 Law360 Glass Ceiling Report for the Third Consecutive Year
For the third consecutive year, Walsworth is pleased to be included in the upper echelon of law firms surveyed, according to Law360’s recently released Glass Ceiling Report, a survey that examines more than 300 U.S. firms about their overall and female head count numbers as of December 31, 2017.
Amongst Best Law Firms for Female Partners
According to the report, “among nonpartners, women make up just under 45 percent of the attorney workforce. But when it comes to the most elite members of a law firm, women represent only 24 percent of all partners – both equity and nonequity – and just over 20 percent of equity partners.”
At the most elite levels, Walsworth’s female representation more than doubles the national averages, an accomplishment which earned it a top spot on this year’s “The Ceiling Smashers” list. In fact, Walsworth is only one of five firms, regardless of size, having more than 50 percent female equity partners.
Above Average Female Representation
Walsworth once again outpaced law firms of every size and in all law firm roles – from associate to equity partner.
Women in Leadership
According to Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report, “the gender breakdown of attorneys in private practice shows women are still underrepresented – especially when it comes to holding leadership roles. Women account for only 21 percent of equity partners and 12 percent of the highest firm leadership roles.” With two female managing partners and over 75 percent of the Steering Committee (the firm’s highest governance committee), Walsworth is proud to be included in this exclusive group of firms.
Co-managing partner Sharon Clisham echoes the sentiments of the Law360 article, suggesting that female leadership – at any level – sets the example for younger associates that they have a future at this firm. She continued, “we make diversity a priority because it is best suited for our legal community and our clients’ needs. We are honored to be included in Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report and to be recognized for our strong commitment to diversity.”
