Walsworth partner Dee Cohen Katz was quoted in the Orange County Business Journal’s Mar. 20 article, entitled “Industry Still Grapples with Dearth of Minority Lawyers.”
Lack of diversity has long been an issue of concern in the legal industry. Attorneys associated with various ethnic bar associations agree that while many OC law firms recognize the importance of diversity today, it’s not always reflected in their work forces.
This is not the case at Walsworth, which is the largest certified women-owned law firm in the country. “Female lawyers comprise 57 percent of Walsworth’s partners, compared to the 22 percent national average. They also account for 60 percent of its steering committee, said Cohen Katz.” She went on to explain that last June, “[Walsworth] was granted membership in the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms and is the largest law firm member of the association in California and the third largest in the U.S.”
